Frequently Asked Questions:

  • I paid for airport bus service with my registration. What should I expect?

Buses from Indianapolis International Airport to Bloomington are scheduled to run on August 1 at 11:00 a.m., 1:45 p.m., and 4:45 p.m. The buses, operated by Bloomington Shuttle Company, will be identified for the Slocum Party and will pick up passengers at the Ground Transportation Center. The Ground Transportation Center is located on the lower level of the airport, across from baggage claim. Return buses from Bloomington to Indianapolis International Airport pick up passengers at the Indiana Memorial Union at 6:30 a.m., 9:45 a.m., and 2:30 p.m. on August 3.

  • Are other buses available?

  • I have already paid through IPP for airport bus service, but I will be arriving on August 2. Will airport bus service still be available to me?

Bloomington Shuttle Company offers a regular shuttle service between Indianapolis International Airport and Bloomington at two-hour intervals. Bloomington stops include both the Indiana Memorial Union and the Courtyard Marriott. You will need to purchase a ticket in advance for each way, for which you will be fully reimbursed upon your registration if you have already paid an airport bus service fee. For more information on scheduling and ticketing, please visit www.bloomingtonshuttle.com.

  • Upon my arrival, when and where do I register for the events?

Registration tables will be open from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Indiana Memorial Union Conference Lounge on August 1. If you will be arriving on August 2, please contact Jillian Hinchliffe at jhinchli@indiana.edu for information on registration.

  • I will not have a car in Bloomington. Will I be able to travel around town?

Charter bus service between the Courtyard Marriott and the Indiana Memorial Union will be provided for campus events.

For independent sightseeing around campus, you may want to take the campus bus service at 75 cents per ride. Bloomington also has an excellent public transit system, with stops convenient to campus and downtown attractions. Complete route maps are available at www.iubus.indiana.edu and at www.bloomingtontransit.com/Bloomington-front-8.9.05.pdf. Yellow Cab Company (812-339-9744) operates from a depot less than half a mile from the Courtyard Marriott. A fun option is to rent bicycles from The Bicycle Garage on East Kirkwood Avenue (www.bikegarage.com/rentals.html). And, of course, Bloomington is a wonderful town to explore on foot!

  • I have to check out of the Courtyard Marriott on Thursday morning, but I want to see some campus and local attractions before I take the shuttle to the airport. Where can I put my luggage?

The Indiana Memorial Union may be able to hold your luggage for up to 4 hours, but guests registered at the IMU will have the first priority for this limited space. More information will be available by the time of the event.

  • I want to book a non-smoking room at the Indiana Memorial Union, but only smoking rooms are still available. What can I do?

Eighty percent of the rooms reserved at the IMU are non-smoking. If all of these are booked, you can reserve a smoking room and, at your request, IMU reservations staff will do their utmost to exchange it for a non-smoking room upon your arrival. All of the rooms reserved at the Courtyard Marriott for this event are non-smoking.

  • I am a vegetarian. Will there be menu items that fit my needs at the events?

Meatless choices are available at the buffet breakfasts and at the buffet lunch. If you would like to be served a vegetarian meal at the reception dinner on August 1 or at the Gala Banquet dinner on August 2, or should you have any other dietary needs, please contact Jillian Hinchliffe at jhinchli@indiana.edu.

  • Will I have time to see both the Kinsey Institute and the Cyclotron Facility?

If you arrive in Bloomington on August 1 and depart on August 3, you will have time to tour the Cyclotron Facility, the Kinsey Institute, and the Lilly Library. Several tours of each site have been scheduled, with each tour limited to groups of fifteen. Sign-up sheets will be available at registration.

  • What other attractions are on campus and in town?

Bloomington is an exciting town that offers many possibilities for shopping, dining, and entertainment. One resource to explore for more information on campus and local attractions is the Bloomington, Indiana Convention & Visitors Bureau website at www.visitbloomington.com.

Special Assistance: If you have a disability and need assistance, special arrangements can be made to accommodate most needs. Please contact Jillian Hinchliffe at jhinchli@indiana.edu.
