DEDICATION OF THE SLOCUM PUZZLE ROOM
THE LILLY LIBRARY
AUGUST 1–3, 2006
Following IPP26 in Boston, attendees are cordially invited to join Jerry
Slocum for the official opening of the Slocum Puzzle Room at the Lilly
Library, on the campus of Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana.
This special occasion will celebrate a new stage in the cultural history of
mechanical puzzles: for the first time a major research-oriented rare book
library will house, and make available to scholars for hands-on use and study,
a world-class collection of mechanical puzzles and books about puzzles. The
university is deeply grateful to Jerry Slocum for making this possible. A
broad range of Jerry's puzzles will be beautifully displayed in new cases
especially constructed for them with the help of generous donors who will also
be recognized at the ceremony.
Jillian Hinchliffe of the Lilly
Library has prepared this list of
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) and a
detailed schedule.
Puzzle Tables: Call for Proposals
We hope to include up to four Puzzle Tables with "Secret Compartments" for
the storage and use of numerous hands-on puzzles in the new Slocum Puzzle
Room. These tables will be a permanent part of the puzzle exhibition, and a
brass plate with the designer and maker's name(s) will be attached to each
table.
Winning proposals will receive a $1000 award for each Puzzle Table upon
delivery, plus additional compensation of design and fabrication costs in
excess of the $1,000 Award;
the Lilly Library will pay for materials, and the Slocum Puzzle
Foundation will pay for transportation.
