Updates and Important RemindersRegistration form and paymentMailed with your invitation is a two-sheet, three-page registration form listing all the choices you made when you pre-registered along with the total amount due. Please review it, make any needed changes or corrections, and (if necessary) recalculate the total due. If you made a prepayment at IPP25 in Helsinki, it should appear as a credit to you on the form. Please return the registration form to us along with payment no later than April 1, 2006. Payment in full is encouraged with your registration, both to simplify our preparation activities and minimize your bank charges. In any event, a minimum, non-refundable deposit of $100 is required, with the balance due when you arrive at IPP26 in July. See the registration form for payment rules. If you pay your balance when you arrive at IPP in Boston, the payment must be in US dollars. The IPP registration fee includes the cost of your souvenir booklet, which will be mailed to you next year after IPP26 is over. Puzzle exchangeIf you are taking part in the puzzle exchange, please plan to bring 101 puzzles. As of this February, 110 Puzzlers have signed up for the IPP26 puzzle exchange. This number may change if there are cancellations. Please see the exchange rules for an explanation of why you need bring only 101 puzzles. Hotel information—Be sure to book early!IPP26 will be held at the Boston Airport Hilton, located just minutes from downtown Boston's tourist destinations. The hotel is both modern and quiet, and will offer many special amenities to IPPers, including very reasonable room rates. The hotel features a main restaurant, a spacious lobby ideal for informal IPP gatherings, a lounge, and a coffee shop that will remain open late for us during IPP26. Other restaurants and foreign exchange facilities are located in the main airport terminal, a short distance away via a covered walkway. Money may also be exchanged at the Hilton front desk. If you asked to share a room at the hotel during IPP26, we will be contacting you soon to help match you up with another single attendee. Hotel reservations must be handled directly with the Airport Hilton. Our special hotel rates are good through July 3, 2006, but book early to make sure you get the room(s) you want. Please make your hotel reservations as soon as possible if you have not already done so. For more information about our hotel, or to reserve rooms, please go to this special link. This web page was created especially for IPP26, and features our special room rates. Alternatively, you can call the hotel's Online Reservation phone line. From within the U.S. and Canada, call toll-free at 1-800-774-1500. If you are outside the US, you can dial 00-1-800-774-1500, and your call will be charged at international direct dial rates. If you call to reserve accommodations, please mention that you are eligible for the special IPP26 room rates. This page contains information about the hotel. Some Facts about the Hotel
IPP26 group breakfastsNew to IPP this year is a series of IPP group continental breakfasts. We have added you and your guests (if any) to the attendee list for these continental breakfasts (featuring bagels, yogurt, and cereals). They will be held each morning of IPP, from Friday morning, July 28 to Monday morning, July 31, 2006 in a private room (the New England Ballroom) at the Hilton hotel. The hotel is on the American plan, and the room rates do not include breakfast, so this will be an excellent way for us to socialize in a room reserved just for IPPers. The cost for the breakfasts is $10.50 per person per day. Your current amount due includes the price for the daily breakfasts. If you and/or any of your guests do not wish to take part in the breakfasts, just deduct the cost ($42 per person) from your total due. Note: There is a breakfast restaurant in the hotel, but it is not big enough to hold all of us at the same time, so there might be delays if too many IPPers go there. Bits And Pieces reception for IPPers arriving earlyFor IPPers arriving early to Boston, there will be a reception hosted by Bits and Pieces on Tuesday afternoon and evening, July 25, 2006, at the home of Alan Segal. It will include casual buffet foods and cocktails. We will tour Alan's house and see his extensive puzzle collection. Buses will leave from the Hilton hotel at 3:30 PM on Tuesday, July 25. The cost is $13 per person for transportation to and from the event. If you answered our earlier email indicating that you wished to attend, your registration form will reflect this. For those IPPers who do not have email, and who have not heard about this event, we have included a form you can fill out and return if you would like to attend the reception. If so, please add $13 per person to your total due. "Impossible Objects" Seminar conducted by Gary FosheeGary Foshee will conduct a special, hands-on seminar on constructing impossible objects during IPP26, limited to thirty people. If you are interested in taking part, please fill in and return the enclosed form with your IPP registration. There will be a materials fee connected with the class, to be determined. If more than thirty people sign up, we will use a lottery to choose thirty attendees. IPP26 Theme: origamiIPP26 will feature a series of special origami-related events, to be conducted by Michael LaFosse and Richard Alexander of the Origamido studio in Haverhill, Massachusetts on Friday and Saturday, July 28 and 29. Michael and Richard will give beginner/intermediate and advanced origami lessons to interested IPPers and their families, and discuss the links between origami and puzzles. Michael notes on his web site that "Origami forms and methods make excellent tools for exploring and explaining many kinds of arithmetic and mathematical concepts—one need not have any knowledge of math to do origami. Folded paper designs can be an eloquent way of demonstrating mathematical and geometric principles. "The areas of study can include: counting; computational skills; fractions; percentages; geometric shapes; square area; volume; set theory; statistics; trigonometry; algebraic expressions; plane geometry; solid geometry; Pythagorean theorem... the list goes on and on." We will have other origami experts at IPP26, and a special exhibit of remarkable origami models. Special NeedsPlease let us know if you have any special needs related to any IPP26 events, such as handicapped access, etc., and let the hotel know about any special needs when making your reservations. You can contact us regarding this by email or by writing to Chris Morgan at the address above.Proprietary designs and privacy issuesAll of the puzzles exchanged and shown at IPP are proprietary designs, and permission must be obtained from the designer before any puzzle can be copied for personal or commercial use. IPP26 attendance is by invitation only. We have had some problems in previous IPPs with people showing up without invitations and guests arriving without prior approval. Please do not ...
IPP 26 InformationWhat is IPP26 and what are the events? The purpose of the International Puzzle Party is to provide an annual forum for serious puzzle collectors for the exchange and sale of puzzles, books and related items, as well as for fun and fellowship. In short: puzzling fun for puzzling enthusiasts. International Puzzle Parties have been held every year since 1978. IPPs are traditionally organized in three-year cycles in the USA, the Far East, and Europe. Attendance at any International Puzzle Party event is by personal invitation only, from the hosting team. Please do not advertise the IPP to people who are not invited. Partners or immediate family members are of course welcome to all IPP26 events, with the exception of the Puzzle Exchange. Other guests are not allowed without permission. IPP26 is organized by the host team on a volunteer basis. We only charge enough for each event to cover actual expenses. To cover miscellaneous administration and organization costs, a registration fee of $75 will be charged to invitees and there will be a charge of $15 for each guest. | |
